Toxic (2025)

The adolescent Marija spends the summer with her grandmother in an industrial area in the hinterland of Lithuania. Due to her walking impairment, she quickly becomes a target of bullying and gets into a fight with the same-aged Kristina, who - like many other girls in this marginalized area - attends a model school. Soon, Marija too joins this cult-like institution. With the prospect of a career in the fashion industry, feelings of self-hatred are normalized here and eating disorders are the order of the day. As an intimate friendship develops between Marija and Kristina, the girls get caught up in an ever-accelerating spiral in which they abuse their bodies in extreme ways.
